2022 James Beard Award Nominees
Chef Mary Kastman of Driftless Café in Viroqua, Wisconsin is a nominee for Best Chef – Midwest. She spoke to us about her passion for localism and provided some great tips for aspiring chefs.
Chef Sean Sherman is founder and CEO of The Sioux Chef in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a nominee for Best Chef – Midwest. His restaurant, Owamni, is also nominated for Best New Restaurant.
His main culinary focus has been on the revitalization and awareness of indigenous foods systems in a modern culinary context.
He shared his thoughts with us about many of his passions, including applying basic traditions to the modern world.
Chef Yia Vang is owner of Union Hmong Kitchen and Vinai in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition to being nominated for Best Chef – Midwest, he is also a nominee for Best New Restaurant.
He joined us for conversations about Hmong cuisine and provided us with his thoughts on creating a mainstream menu that stays true to its ethnic roots.
